About SUSMAT-RC:
The Sustainable Materials Research Center (SusMat - RC) is a multidisciplinary research center engaged in the development of advanced biobased products and materials thereof using biotechnological, physical and chemical conversion strategies and engineering processes (b) understanding and controlling their underlying specific functionalities and the structure-properties relationship acting over multiple length scales from the molecular, nano to the macro level and their cross-interactions and (c) utilizing the gathered knowledge and the invented materials to address key technological challenges in Morocco and African continent and assist the transition toward a green and circular economy.

Job Description:
The Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) has an opening for full time scientist in the field of environmental engineering and Biotechnology with a strong background in Aerobic and Anerobic Bioprocesses.
The ideal candidate should have solid experience with biotechnological tools application for industrial by-products valorization and biotransformation. The candidate should also demonstrate a strong background in exploiting aerobic and anaerobic bioprocesses for bioremediation and resource recovery from industrial solid wastes and wastewaters effluents. Experience with applied microbiology and different types of bioreactors (e.g. Aero/ anaerobic systems, batch/ continuous reactors, Membrane Bioreactors) is highly required. In addition, the candidate must have knowledge of Molecular biology techniques and analyses, chemical analysis, biostatistical analysis, and other analytical methods.
The Candidates should hold a PhD degreein environmental engineering, environmental biotechnology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, environmental microbiology, environmental science, or a related field, with a publication record in peer-reviewed journals. Very good communication in English and French is required. And ideal candidate for this position will be self-motivated with strong social competencies and communication skills to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative, and multicultural research group.
MainResponsibilities
The candidate will be expected to:
- Plan and conduct research as part of the research team and contribute to designing, planning and implementing research activities and experiments, data collection and research results analysis and interpretation.
- Develop innovative technologies and methodologies in bioprocess engineering.
- Prepare and contribute to writing grant proposal applications.
- Generate high-quality research publications, including peer-reviewed articles and conference papers, showcasing excellence in research.
- Develop and implement collaborative research with different partners and networks.
- Mentor and collaborate with PhD, master, and undergrad students, providing guidance on research projects.
Education, qualifications and experience:
Ph.D. in environmental engineering, environmental biotechnology, bioengineering, chemical engineering, environmental microbiology, environmental science, or a related field.
- Strong background and expertise in Anaerobic biotechnology and Bioremediation.
- Experience in empirical research in applied microbiology for waste bioconversion, operating different bioreactor systems (e.g. Aero/ anaerobic systems, batch/ continuous reactors, Membrane Bioreactors).
- Strong knowledge in anaerobic and industrial microbiology.
- Working knowledge of different Molecular biology tools including DNA extraction, (meta)genomics sequencing, microbial community analysis, biostatistical analysis, and utilization of bioinformatics tools is desirable.
- Knowledge of different analytical techniques: FTIR, XRF, TGA, ICP, HPLC, IC (ionic chromatography).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams and collaborate with national and international partners.
- Excellent communication skills in English and French, both written and verbal.
- A track record of publication in well ranked journals.
- Proven experience in a renowned international laboratory for environmental biotechnology.
- Established collaborations with renowned international researchers in the field of environmental biotechnology.
- Enthusiasm towards generating new ideas and passion for solving challenging problems that require complex creative solutions.
