Position Overview
The Biosciences CoreLab Bioinformatician will play a critical role in driving expert analysis and management of large-scale genomic datasets. This role requires a high degree of technical proficiency, creativity, and a collaborative mindset. Selected candidates will be based at UM6P at the Benguerir campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive bioinformatic analyses, including sequence assembly, annotation, variant calling, differential gene expression, population genomics, and comparative genomics
- Create innovative visualizations and figures to present complex genomic data
- Develop, refine, and maintain bioinformatic workflows and pipelines for high-throughput genomic data processing
- Collaborate with research teams to design experiments and analyze data to support scientific discoveries
- Provide training and support to research staff and students on bioinformatics tools and best practices
- Develop and manage databases to ensure integrity, security, and accessibility of data
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in a bioinformatics role, within a research team, service-providing entity, or a clinical setting
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in bioinformatics software, tools, and databases with strong coding skills in Python, R, and/or Perl
- Primary, secondary, and tertiary analysis of complete genomes, exomes, transcriptomes, methylomes, and gene panels
- Genomic and metagenomic analysis of pathogens and/or phytopathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi)
- Bioinformatic analysis of RNA-Seq data
- Proficiency in the Linux environment and knowledge of various relevant bioinformatic tools, databases, and algorithms
- Excellent working knowledge of HPC computing clusters
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex data to various audiences
- Experience in managing multiple projects simultaneously, with strong organizational and time-management skills
