About the Position
The CBS department of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is seeking a post-doctoral fellow specializing in magnetic/electromagnetic separation in solid and liquid matrices. The fellow will join the CBS-IGSAC department to participate in a research program on the valorization of phosphate by-products and derivatives, focusing on developing magnetic/electromagnetic techniques for separation, concentration, recovery, or destruction of certain elements.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct scientific research within the project team on magnetic/electromagnetic separation processes
- Execute magnetic/electromagnetic separation experiments with precision and accuracy on complex matrices
- Train and supervise second- and third-year doctoral students to prepare them for their defense
- Perform scale-up studies of magnetic and electromagnetic separation processes to validate appropriate designs
- Monitor ongoing experiments, adjust settings as needed, and maintain high laboratory standards
Required Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent in applied chemistry, physics, materials science, or relevant discipline with focus on magnetic separation of metal(loid)s
- Strong familiarity with magnetic properties of metal(loid)s and minerals, with capability to separate them from complex matrices
- Expertise in metal(loid)s speciation and their physicochemical properties
- Good background in magnetic and electromagnetic separation techniques and scale-up processes
- Prior experience in selectively separating metal(loid)s from low-grade ores or by-products
- Experience in separation/purification of industrial effluents using electromagnetic/magnetic technologies
- Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills
Key Skills and Competencies
- Comprehensive understanding of principles of magnetic separation and magnetic phenomena
- Previous experience in designing and conducting laboratory experiments investigating interactions between magnetic/electromagnetic fields and materials
- Competence in materials characterization techniques
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to interpret simulation and experiment results
- Familiarity with safety protocols and quality control measures in laboratory settings
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a research team
