About the Position

The CBS department of Mohammed VI Polytechnic University is seeking a post-doctoral fellow specializing in magnetic/electromagnetic separation in solid and liquid matrices. The fellow will join the CBS-IGSAC department to participate in a research program on the valorization of phosphate by-products and derivatives, focusing on developing magnetic/electromagnetic techniques for separation, concentration, recovery, or destruction of certain elements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct scientific research within the project team on magnetic/electromagnetic separation processes
  • Execute magnetic/electromagnetic separation experiments with precision and accuracy on complex matrices
  • Train and supervise second- and third-year doctoral students to prepare them for their defense
  • Perform scale-up studies of magnetic and electromagnetic separation processes to validate appropriate designs
  • Monitor ongoing experiments, adjust settings as needed, and maintain high laboratory standards

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent in applied chemistry, physics, materials science, or relevant discipline with focus on magnetic separation of metal(loid)s
  • Strong familiarity with magnetic properties of metal(loid)s and minerals, with capability to separate them from complex matrices
  • Expertise in metal(loid)s speciation and their physicochemical properties
  • Good background in magnetic and electromagnetic separation techniques and scale-up processes
  • Prior experience in selectively separating metal(loid)s from low-grade ores or by-products
  • Experience in separation/purification of industrial effluents using electromagnetic/magnetic technologies
  • Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skills

Key Skills and Competencies

  • Comprehensive understanding of principles of magnetic separation and magnetic phenomena
  • Previous experience in designing and conducting laboratory experiments investigating interactions between magnetic/electromagnetic fields and materials
  • Competence in materials characterization techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including ability to interpret simulation and experiment results
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and quality control measures in laboratory settings
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively as part of a research team

Application Requirements

  • Cover letter detailing motivation for applying
  • Complete curriculum vitae
  • Brief research statement
  • Contact details of three referees
