About the Position
Join Mohammed VI Polytechnic University's College of Chemical Sciences & Engineering (CCSE) as an Assistant Professor in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. This teaching-focused position offers the opportunity to shape the curriculum and mentor students in a rapidly growing institution dedicated to research and innovation in Africa.
Teaching Activities
- Teach and coordinate computing and data modules including computer science fundamentals, algorithms, programming, numerical analysis, data science and machine learning
- Design and deliver a comprehensive artificial intelligence teaching track covering data management, reproducibility, and applied machine learning for chemistry, materials and process engineering
- Supervise data-driven modelling, simulation projects, and digital components of design and integrative projects
- Develop teaching materials, laboratory experiments, and assessment methods; contribute to pedagogical committees and accreditation processes
- Supervise student projects, laboratory work, internships, and end-of-study projects with academic advising
- Annual teaching load: minimum 100 hours, expected to reach 150 hours across multiple programs
Research Activities
- Contribute to research within an affiliated R&D entity at a level compatible with teaching focus, in data science and artificial intelligence applied to chemistry, materials or process engineering
- Co-supervise student projects, internships, and graduate candidates
- Participate in collaborative, funded, and industrial projects
- Publish and disseminate research results
Academic and Industry Partnerships
- Establish collaborations with faculty across CCSE and other UM6P entities to build shared teaching resources and project topics
- Engage with industry partners for real-world case studies, project design, and student internships
- Contribute to outreach activities including open days and secondary school relations
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Applied Mathematics, or closely related field
- Strong command of data science and artificial intelligence methods and their application to scientific and engineering problems
- Practical expertise in scientific programming environments and reproducible data workflows
- Teaching experience in programming and data science to non-specialist engineering students
- Teaching experience in undergraduate or graduate courses in both French and English (teaching assistant or instructor roles acceptable)
- Commitment to pedagogical innovation and ability to mentor students in active learning environments
- Demonstrated research and development profile with ability to sustain applied research and contribute to collaborative or industrial projects
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience applying machine learning to chemistry, materials, or process data
- Familiarity with high-performance computing environments
- Experience with project-based, problem-based, or challenge-based teaching and design project supervision
- Experience designing syllabi and assessment schemes for new programs
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within teaching teams
