Position Overview
Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) seeks a dynamic postdoctoral researcher to join the Center of Excellence for Soil and Fertilizer Research in Africa (CESFRA). Research Focus
The successful candidate will conduct innovative research to:
- Evaluate how land uses and agricultural practices affect soil carbon storage capacity
- Develop and test strategies including organo-mineral amendments, plant cover installation, and microbial inoculation
- Increase sequestration of stable organic matter forms in soils
- Establish practical biological soil health indicators for sustainable African agriculture
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct farmer surveys in Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan African regions to assess current agricultural practices and soil organic carbon levels
- Characterize soil properties from diverse farm sites and propose improvement strategies
- Design and execute field experiments testing organo-mineral resources for soil carbon enhancement
- Assess soil biological parameters and soil fauna responses to management practices
- Model organic matter dynamics under future climate change scenarios using soil organic models
- Mentor master's students and PhD candidates in research activities
Required Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in Agronomy, Soil Sciences, or Soil Ecology with expertise in organic matter dynamics
- Strong knowledge of soil science, soil fertility, and crop production systems in Mediterranean and Sub-Saharan African contexts
- Demonstrated capability to design field experiments, analyze data using statistical methods, and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals
- Proven experience in multidisciplinary research and supervising undergraduate and graduate students
- Fluent written and verbal communication in English and French
