About the Position

The Postdoctoral Researcher will contribute to innovative research at the intersection of hydrology, artificial intelligence, and urban systems at the Centre for Urban Systems (CUS). The role focuses on designing and applying hydrological and AI-based modelling approaches to address water-related challenges in urban environments, improving understanding and prediction of hydrological processes under climate variability, urbanization, and increasing water demand.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced research in AI-based modelling applied to urban water systems and develop predictive tools for hydrological analysis
  • Design analytical approaches to improve water resources management and urban resilience
  • Integrate hydrological, climatic, geospatial, and remote sensing datasets for modelling purposes
  • Produce high-quality scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals and present research at international conferences
  • Design and implement machine learning and deep learning models for hydrological applications
  • Collaborate with academic partners, public institutions, and urban stakeholders to support sustainable urban planning strategies

Key Duties

  • Assess water availability issues and support development of decision-support tools for resilient urban water management
  • Process, analyze, and interpret environmental and spatial datasets
  • Write and publish scientific articles supporting dissemination of research results
  • Contribute to preparation of research proposals and respond to national and international funding calls

Required Profile

  • PhD in Hydrology, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, Data Science, Civil Engineering, or related field
  • Strong background in hydrological modelling, time-series analysis, and environmental data analysis
  • Demonstrated experience in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning applied to hydrological systems
  • Strong proficiency in Python and relevant libraries (TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn, Pandas); R knowledge is an asset
  • Familiarity with geospatial data, GIS, and remote sensing products
  • Proficiency in English and French, both written and spoken

Skills and Qualities

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with capacity to handle large and heterogeneous datasets
  • Ability to link technical modelling work with applied urban and environmental challenges
  • Good organizational and time-management skills with clear communication of complex results
  • Team spirit, autonomy, and initiative with interest in resilience and sustainability in urban systems
