Position Overview
This 12-month post-doctoral position focuses on the design, prototyping, and testing of bio-inspired drones at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University's GSMI/GEP entity. You will contribute to developing morphing wing UAV structures by combining mechanical design, composite fabrication, and experimental validation inspired by natural flyers such as birds and bats.
Main Responsibilities
- Perform CAD/CAE modeling and structural optimization of UAV frames using tools like ABAQUS, SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOL
- Conduct composite layup and 3D printing (FDM/SLA) fabrication of drone airframes and components
- Design and execute aerodynamic, vibration, fatigue, and endurance testing campaigns including wind tunnel and flight tests
- Assemble, calibrate, and validate morphing-wing UAV prototypes for mechanical and aerodynamic performance
- Document research findings, analyze experimental data, and contribute to publications and patent applications
Required Qualifications
- Engineering degree (Bac+5) or equivalent in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering
- Strong background in CAD/CAE, structural design, and composite materials
- Proficiency with simulation software (ABAQUS, SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL)
- Experience in additive manufacturing or mechanical testing (advantageous)
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to work autonomously within multidisciplinary teams
Expected Outcomes
- Development of TRL 5 UAV prototype
- Publication of 3 Q1 research papers and contribution to patent filing
- Establishment of morphing UAV design workflow at UM6P
