Position Overview

Join a multidisciplinary research project at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University focused on sustainable valorization of phosphate-rich mining waste through innovative comminution strategies. This 12-month postdoctoral position offers the opportunity to lead research on autogenous grinding as a low-energy alternative for liberating indurated phosphates from mining waste deposits (MATs).

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed literature review on autogenous grinding and phosphate-rich mining waste valorization
  • Design and implement mechanical, mineralogical, and rheological characterizations of mining waste materials
  • Select and dimension appropriate autogenous mill equipment for pilot-scale testing
  • Lead design and execution of lab-scale autogenous grinding trials using experimental design methodologies
  • Contribute to numerical modeling of beneficiation circuits using software such as USIMPAC
  • Analyze, interpret, and report outcomes of simulations and pilot tests

Key Requirements

  • PhD in Mineral Processing, Mining Engineering, Georesources Engineering, or related field
  • Proven experience in ore characterization techniques (mechanical, mineralogical, physical)
  • Solid knowledge of comminution technologies and mineral beneficiation processes
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English or French
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in grinding technology and mill operations
  • Familiarity with process simulation software (USIMPAC, MODSIM, METSIM)
  • Prior collaboration with industrial partners in mining sector
  • Knowledge of phosphate ores and North African mineral context

Project Focus

This research integrates mineralogical and mechanical characterization, pilot-scale testing, and advanced process simulation to optimize grinding performance and enhance resource recovery. The project promotes circular economy practices and technological innovation in the Moroccan phosphate mining sector while reducing operational costs and energy consumption.
