About the Role
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking a Project Coordinator in Fez, Morocco, to support the implementation of the "Smart Management of the Cleanliness Sector" project. This initiative focuses on integrating waste pickers into formal cooperatives, promoting a circular economy, and improving urban cleanliness through inclusive and structured approaches.
Main Responsibilities
Project Implementation Support
- Coordinate all project activities with the focal point and city team, strengthening local capacities in project management, planning, budgeting, and procurement
- Lead strategic planning, decision-making, execution, and review to achieve project targets, indicators, and results
- Prepare terms of reference for procurement processes and facilitate development of contracting and procurement strategies
- Supervise service providers, consultants, and private entities; conduct performance evaluations and certify service delivery to the municipality
- Coordinate project staff, assess team performance, provide guidance, and build local capacity
- Develop proposals to improve project efficiency and identify sustainability alternatives and exit strategies
Project Monitoring and Reporting
- Prepare monitoring frameworks for project status, results, and milestones
- Monitor project results and identify data related to SDG targets and indicators for communication materials
- Prepare operational reports on project activities and their impact on beneficiaries
- Ensure effective communication with UNDP, the municipality, beneficiaries, and local communities
Knowledge Sharing
- Develop knowledge products on how the project contributes to SDGs through innovation in public service delivery
- Develop policy briefs and transferable knowledge materials on lessons learned
- Participate in global exchanges among local governments on SDG implementation
Required Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree in environment, circular economy, waste management, recycling, or sustainable development
- OR Bachelor's degree in these fields plus two years of relevant professional experience in environmental project management
Experience and Skills
- Proven leadership and project management skills
- Computer literacy and proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Strong understanding of local realities related to waste pickers' activities and Moroccan regulatory context
- Experience working with local governments and associations (desired)
- Expertise in waste management, circular economy, and sustainable development (desired)
Languages
- Fluency in English (spoken and written) - required
- Fluency in Arabic and Moroccan dialect - required
- Knowledge of Amazigh dialect - asset
