About the Role
Harmattan AI, a next-generation defense prime valued at $1.4 billion, is seeking an Aerodynamic Engineer to design, validate, and continuously improve the flight physics of UAV and eVTOL platforms. You will work across the complete design-to-validation loop—from conceptual aerodynamic design and simulation through physical testing to Python tooling—collaborating closely with Mechanical and GNC teams.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct aerodynamic design and analysis for fixed-wing, multicopter, and eVTOL configurations using low-fidelity methods (XFoil, OpenVSP, AVL) and higher-fidelity CFD
- Support flight test and wind tunnel campaigns by defining test cards, instrumenting prototypes, and validating simulation predictions against real-world data
- Develop Python automation tools to process test and flight data, streamline analysis workflows, and integrate design and simulation tools
- Generate and maintain aerodynamic databases and stability derivatives for GNC team control law development and autopilot tuning
- Collaborate with Mechanical and GNC teams throughout the design cycle to ensure aerodynamic choices remain feasible, stable, and testable
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, or related field with aerodynamics or flight mechanics coursework/project experience
- Solid understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals (lift, drag, stability) and flight dynamics with design intuition
- Proficiency in Python (NumPy, SciPy, Pandas) for data processing, automation, and tool integration
- Hands-on experience with aerodynamic simulation (CFD, XFoil, OpenVSP, AVL) or physical testing (wind tunnel, flight test, prototyping)
- Familiarity with CAD tools (SolidWorks or CATIA) for geometry understanding and mechanical team communication
- Pragmatic, hands-on mindset comfortable working across the full design-to-validation loop in a fast-moving team
