About the Role
Join UM6P Corelabs' Imaging & Characterization platform as an Electron Microscopy Engineer. You will operate and maintain scanning electron microscopes (SEM) and transmission electron microscopes (TEM), delivering high-quality analytical services to internal researchers, doctoral students, and industrial clients in a research-driven environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Receive, process, and prioritize client requests for SEM/TEM analyses and provide expert guidance on analytical needs
- Prepare samples for electron microscopy using specialized techniques: coating, polishing, embedding, ion milling, and ultramicrotomy for biological samples
- Operate SEM at advanced level: high-resolution imaging (SE/BSE modes), EDS elemental mapping, and EBSD analysis
- Perform TEM/STEM observations including high-resolution imaging, EDS microanalysis, and EELS spectroscopy
- Develop, validate, and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) for sample preparation and analysis protocols
- Produce clear analysis reports, maintain data integrity, ensure HSE compliance, and participate in quality management and platform training
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Nanosciences, or related field
- Proven hands-on experience in scanning electron microscopy (SEM): imaging, EDS, EBSD
- Proficiency in data acquisition and processing software (AZtec/INCA, Digital Micrograph, Velox, ImageJ/FIJI)
- Fluent communication skills in English and French
- Strong client service orientation, organizational skills, and attention to detail
Preferred Assets
- Knowledge of transmission electron microscopy (TEM/STEM, EDS, EELS)
- Experience in biology or structural biology and biological sample preparation
- Background working in shared analytical platforms or core facility environments
