Laboratory Technical & Project Manager – Energy & Chemicals

About the Role

SGS is seeking a Laboratory Technical & Project Manager to lead the technical operations and project development of our Energy & Chemicals laboratory in Morocco. You will oversee laboratory activities at Tanger Med, Jorf Lasfar, and other SGS sites, ensuring high technical standards, ISO/IEC 17025 compliance, and operational excellence in petroleum product testing and analysis.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for all Energy & Chemicals laboratory activities in Morocco, including gasoline testing, blending operations, and petroleum product analysis.
• Oversee laboratory project development for Jorf Lasfar Petroleum Products Lab and Transformer Oils & OCM Testing Lab, ensuring fast-track deployment of analytical methods and quality controls.
• Act as technical authority for ISO/IEC 17025 quality systems, method validation, equipment calibration, and laboratory best practices.
• Develop, review, and implement SOPs, analytical methods, and quality control procedures aligned with SGS standards.
• Lead technical training and competency development for laboratory chemists and technicians.
• Support procurement, installation, and validation of new laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
• Ensure adherence to SGS HSE, Quality, Compliance, and Integrity standards across all laboratory activities.
• Participate in technical meetings with clients, audits, and internal/external assessments to maintain customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent scientific discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Oil & Gas laboratory management with Testing, Inspection & Certification companies.
• Proven expertise in CFR Engine operations, calibration, and blending processes.
• Experience with ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation, laboratory setup, and project management.
• Strong understanding of petroleum product testing (gasoline, gasoil, fuel oil, marine distillates, lubricants, transformer oils, LNG/LPG).
• Hands-on knowledge of analytical instruments: CFR Octane/Cetane engines, AAS, ICP-OES, GC, UVF, HPLC, and reformulyzer.
• Proficiency in method validation, calibration, QA/QC, and data integrity principles.
• Fluency in English (spoken and written); French and Arabic highly desirable.

Work Environment

Based primarily at Tanger Med Laboratory with frequent travel to Jorf Lasfar and other SGS sites in Morocco. Field and laboratory environment requiring adherence to SGS HSE and site access procedures. Occasional international travel for training or group projects.
